Venue: People Fine Dining, Marmaris
Reviewed By: Louise Bell The Venue: You will find 'People Fine Dining' just a stones throw away from the beach in Marmaris, behind Mudo shopping center and next door to where the old Puppy Pub used to be. Inside the restaurant / bar it is rather stylish, with some what of a surfer vibe going on with great decor and ambiance. I would say that the decor may give the wrong impression of the prices (which are very reasonable indeed by the way). The Food: The food concept is totally different from other restaurants in Marmaris as they have lip smacking food on the menu that I have not seen anywhere else here. They run different meal deals throughout the week such as Beer and Burger Club, High Tea (yes, they really have an Afternoon cream Tea available), Sunday Roast, etc that offer more discounts on the already reasonable menu prices. Special Nights & Promotions: They literally have many to choose from! Monday's: Mojito Madness with DuYaDee Band. This one got me excited as the Mojito's are only 11tl on a Monday!! They also have their resident soul band DuYaDee that play a variation of British, American, European and Turkish live music (on from 8.30pm) who are great to sing along with while fulled with Mojitos. Tuesday's and Thursdays: DJ MFT CESSAR plays a chilled out Tech House set. Wednesday's: Turkish Live Pop music with the famous Ercan Cicigil who was a winner on Turkeys The Voice (O Ses Turkiye)! Friday's: Ladies Night with DuYaDee Band! Another good one with EXCELLENT promotions: -For Ladies: 1st drink free -For All: 50% off all bottled wine's and champagnes and includes Blooming Onions when ordering a bottle of wine! Good deal all round really! Saturday's: LOCO Saturday! Starting Sat 9th July. The first of its kind here in Marmaris and something I plan to go along to on many occasions :) Their description of the night is 'Drink, Dine and Dance on the tables while you are entertained by our DJ plus special guests & acts throughout the night!' They are also throwing in a cocktail on the house too! This one sounds very interesting indeed and I for one cant wait for the first one... Sunday's: Roast Dinner served all day for the marvelous price of 35tl Per Person that also includes a glass of Red or White wine / Beer / Soft Drink! ON EVERY DAY: -Beer & Burger Club where you receive your first beer free when ordering a burger! -Happy Hour(s) from 15:00 - 20:00. By one, get one free! -Afternoon High Tea from 13.00 - 18.00pm, 25tl per person that includes a pot of Tea, sandwiches and treats galore! For Reservations: 4123006 My Opinion: I believe that shines through already. The food is delicious and very reasonably priced, the staff are helpful and friendly, the live music and DJ are brilliant and the offers and promotions that they run are fab and greatly appreciated by me! I have been in quite a few times now and will continue to support this new Bar / Restaurant as they find there feet here in Marmaris. I do love a change from the norm, and People is certainly a change from the norm :)

Main Aim of the Charity: Our work is to rescue any animal in need, not just dogs but also cats, ducks, horses, rabbits, in fact any animal that comes our way. We also have a trap and neuter programme for the many street cats in Içmeler. So Janet, can you let us all know a little bit about what do you do in Içmeler? In 2007/8 I became involved in ‘Marmaris Animal Welfare’ as a volunteer. In April 2010 a dog shelter opened in Içmeler, so I along with Semin Biter (The president of Içmeler Animal Welfare) started working there as a volunteer. Over the years it has grown in size and we have built many extra kennels but there is still so much more that needs to be done. We are presently housing around 60 dogs and puppies, this number increases in the winter months as many more dogs are abandoned. We arrange food, vet care, and ensure that the dogs have suitable shelter for the cold winter months. It is difficult in the winter months as we have no mains electric so we have to do as much as we can during daylight hours. We also ensure that the dogs are walked as often as we can. During the summer months we have many holiday makers who generously give up their time to walk the dogs. The dogs love the attention they get and are all very well behaved! How do you raise money?: We have a facebook page, Içmeler Animal Welfare, the members of which send money via paypal to help towards the food and ever mounting vets bills. Many of the visitors to Içmeler donate clothing, jewelry, towels, cosmetics shoes, books, dvds, which they no longer need at the end of their holidays. We then hold table top sales throughout the summer season where the goods are sold, which brings in much needed cash for the upkeep of all the animals. We also have some members and friends from UK who use the Thomas Cook free 10k baggage allowance for charities and bring us lots of collars, leads, frontline, flea treatments and most welcome dog treats. What is the main thing that the donations go towards?: Many of the animals that we take into our shelter need immediate vet care so there are always vets bills to be paid. All the dogs in our care are neutered which again is an expensive outlay. On top of that we have to buy food for the dogs, and the many street cats that we feed at various feeding stations throughout Içmeler. We are constantly repairing the kennels and ensuring that there is a constant supply of drinking water for the dogs. We have recently purchased a freezer through kind donations from our members and friends. We have some very generous hoteliers who save all their leftover food for us to collect which we can then store for the winter months. Unfortunately we have to go through all the donated food by hand to remove, tissues, plastic , bones and other unwanted bits and pieces. Not a pleasant job, but very necessary for the well being of the dogs. Do the Animals stay in the shelter for life?: We hope that they will all find forever homes, however obviously some do not. It is very upsetting, but on the up side of this some of the animals do get adopted. Over the last 3 years we have been very lucky that 16 dogs have gone to the UK and Europe after being adopted by members who came to visit the kennels. They take the dogs walking during their holidays and simply fall in love!!! It’s so heartwarming when the members send me videos and photographs of the dogs enjoying their new lives in other parts of the world. I wish it would happen much more often as there as so many dogs here in the shelter that need a loving forever home. Where can people find out more info on the cause?: Via our facebook page ‘Içmeler Animal Welfare’. It has been very effective in raising awareness of the registered charity. We have over 1500 members from here in Turkey, the UK and Europe. We always welcome new members who can join our page for information, events we are holding, the adoption process, volunteering and of course pictures of our beautiful animals. And finally, on a personal note, what made you move to Içmeler?: I moved to Turkey in 2005, for no specific reason except that I wanted a bit of adventure and ended up staying longer than expected due to the charity work with the animals. I didn’t anticipate doing this type of work, but I suppose I have found my calling. My dogs mean a lot to me and all have their own personal names. It will be hard to walk away from it all, but I do miss my family and eventually I will return to the UK. Meanwhile I intend to carry on and make sure the animals get the best lives I can give them. Date Visited: 06.12.15 Reviewed By: Louise Bell As a Marmaris socialite it’s fair to say that I am lucky enough to be invited to some super fabulous places to try out some super fabulous food. Yesterday I was invited to chow down for Sunday Brunch at the Steak&Bar. The Venue: The Steak&Bar restaurant itself is located on the top floor of the Grand Azur hotel with superb views that look across the bay of Marmaris. Great if you want to impress a new beau, your friends or family visiting. Tip: Take a minute before you head in for brunch to take a few selfies , you never know, you may find the perfect new profile picture with the fantabulous view across the bay as your backdrop! The Food: The concept is an open American/Turkish style buffet brunch that boasts loads of delicious gum smacking treats including the best menemen I have ever had the pleasure of tasting! You will also find mini burgers, pizza slices, your usual Turkish breakfast offerings, and the pièces de résistance - donuts! Yes donuts!!!! In fact the whole brunch is a hungover persons paradise. And with as much coffee or tea to wash it all down, you will hopefully emerge hangover free and ready to crack on with your Sunday. Tip: Save some room for your brunch dessert. Its easy to get carried away! The Price: A tad more expensive than your usual Marmaris brunch at 35.00tl per adult, however with what they have to offer, it is totally worth it. The Reason: Other than hunger and the love of brunch, with Christmas coming up this is a great place to go for a get together with your other half, family or your group of socialite ladies, whether it be after partying the night away or simply as a lovely treat to yourself and your crew. I decided to jump on the band wagon some time ago now after a good friend of mind gave me some coconut oil to use as a moisturiser, and I didn’t stop there! Since then I have used the oil as a hair mask, to remove make up with and off course to cook with. The health benefits also include stress relief, cholesterol level maintenance, weight loss, boosted immune system, proper digestion and regulated metabolism. Crikey, I need to stock pile as this product seems to be everyone’s number 1 right now! Hair: The Lived in look – I used to hate roots, but I have been converted! I simply Ja’dor the lived in look that is sweeping the planet currently! I have coloured my usually dark tresses to a dirty blond/brond just to fully embrace the grown our root lived in look and take it by storm. Who knew that giving up on your roots could not just be liberating, but also a fashion statement too! ‘Cute’ App – Oh how much can a girl love one app? This app has massive discounts on everything a girl can need plus more! With girly treats galore from slimming products to my new fav Wispy Lashes, I just adore shopping on this app! Shipping can take between 1 and 3 weeks, but I seem to have got it down to a fine art with having something new arriving at least once a week now! What’s Not Running out of Battery on your electric scooter - I invested in a super cute electric scooter this year but I can never get it quite right with deciphering when it will run out of charge. School girl mistakes happen to others too (thank the good lord) as I passed a young fellow pushing his electric scooter whilst I was pushing mine home too. Smug Social Media Posts – Seriously anything that you would not say in real life to a real person standing opposite you should be left unsaid. I simply do not care what your amazing other half has done for your birthday / anniversary. And no it’s not because I am jealous, it’s because I dislike smug people. Name: Mark Larney
Age: 35 Nationality: Irish How long you lived in Marmaris?: I have been in Marmaris now on and off for 14 years. I originally came to Marmaris to work in a big show here (Talk of the Town) and I was here for 8 seasons with them, then I went back to UK for 3 years. Then in 2013 I was asked to come back to join a new show team for 2014 but sadly it did not work out. I came back on holiday to see my very good friend that had his own show in Icmeler (The Stella Show). My friend Michael asked me to come and join him in a show that he was going to do for this year 2015 but sadly he passed away in September 2014. In a turn of events, at the end of 2014 I got a call from Michele Selcuk to ask if I would like to put a show on at The Portofino restaurant in Marmaris for 2015 so I jumped at the chance to have my own show here in Marmaris. Why Marmaris?: I love Marmaris. I have made a lot of good friends here over the years and it is a lovely place to live and visit too. Will you be returning next season?: As it is the first year for us doing the show here at The Portofino I do hope I will be back, and the way it is looking it will be a yes fingers crossed. What do you miss about home?: My mum, my wee dog Dolly and English telly. Besides that not a lot! Biggest difference between living in UK and living in Marmaris:? Well the biggest thing is the heat here in middle of season. It is so hot but you do get a good tan. Oh, and the people are happier too! Best bits of living in Marmaris: I do love the sun in the summer and I have a lot of good friends that live here all year round. The Marmaris people are lovely and friendly too. Favourite restaurant in Marmaris: Well for starters it got to be The Portofino, I have been eating there for 14 years now! I do like Bono and I love The Mandarin Chinese restaurant too. Favourite bar in Marmaris: Over the years there have been many bars that I have loved including the old Bar X and Salt n Pepa on the beach front, and this year it is the Albatross Bar. Where do you go for a Hair Cut & Colour?: Annette’s Coiffeur. How have you been spending your spare time here: Visiting all the fabulous restaurants, going over to my friend’s houses and catching up on my beauty sleep. Source: Şamata Magazine. Louise Bell & Mehmet Çolakoğlu: 11th April 2015, Joya Del Mar Boutique Hotel, Aktaş, Marmaris
How We Met: My official story is that I first met Mehmet in Davey Jones bar where he used to work as a Barman back in June 2012. The real story is I added him as a friend on facebook after never meeting him just ‘cos he looked cute. The Venue: Our wedding and reception took place in the idyllic venue of Joya Del Mar Boutique Hotel, located 10 minutes away from Marmaris in Aktaş. We had the ceremony in the picture perfect garden area right on the water’s edge with yachts bobbing around in the background. We found this gorgeous venue when we were having a lazy Sunday riding around on the scooter looking for somewhere to chill. I immediately asked Omer the manager of the hotel way back in July last year if we could get married there and thankfully he agreed. They had not hosted a wedding there before and he has stated since that it will probably not happen again for quite some time. Whether that’s due to bridezilla here is debatable. Anyway, they made the day and night a huge success with their excellent service, attention to detail and the general venue being so fabulous. The Wedding Party: Kelly Thomson – Maid of Honor, Lindsey Eglinton – Bridesmaid, Shaun Leadbitter – Gucci’s Minder and Brides-man, Gucci Prince Michael the 2nd – Page Dog and general entertainment, Serkan Erol – Mehmets Best Man. The Guests: What a diverse crowd! What with my old MyTravel repping friends flying in from the UK, the whole of my UK family and good friends, my Turkey friends and Mehmets parents and friends , we made a right ole rabble. The Reception: The reception was filled with fabulous food, copious amounts of alcohol, tearful and hilarious speeches, a great DJ & Singer (Katie & Selim), and best of all was the company that we shared the wedding and reception with. The Dress: Black and Lilac, a Vera Wang copy made by Berlin Modehaus in Marmaris. I literally took in photo’s of what I wanted and the genius dressmaker there created my dream dress. I am a non traditional kid of gal, so a white dress just was not for me. Dont get me wrong, I bought a white dress to begin with, but ended up taking it back. Photographer: I do not wish to mention the photographer as we were a tad unhappy with the wedding album to say the least... Wedding Planner: That would be me, with a little help from my friends :) Note: This was was taken from an article I wrote for Şamata Magazin with some slight modifications. Venue: Golden Rose Make Up, Blue Port Shopping Centre
Reviewed By: Nicky Curtis The Reason: I recently went to my friend’s wedding, and this being a big affair, we wanted to look as glam as possible. Now, any girl out there reading this will know that applying make-up in August heat is not only difficult, but is also downright frustrating, because whatever you apply has a nasty habit of streaking its way down your face, whilst your time-consuming coiffured hair goes on to stick to the foundation you’ve just oh-so-carefully applied to your sweaty forehead. All in all, it’s not a fun experience. So because weddings are big affairs, we decided to treat ourselves and have our make-up done professionally. The Venue: Golden Rose in the Blue Port Shopping Centre, upstairs on the first floor. The first thing that hit me was the air conditioning, so I was immediately put at rest once I realised that I wasn’t going to be battling against my body’s reaction to the intense heat outside. The second thing was the relaxing atmosphere in the store; not at all stuffy or uncomfortable like some beauty outlets have a tendency to be. The staff were warm, friendly, and offered drinks whilst we waited our turn in the make-up chair. The Process: The actual process of having your make-up done is extremely relaxing I found, and I felt the pre-wedding stress ease away. Tip: Think about what you’re going to wear before you go, because that way your make-up can be done to complement the colour of your outfit. My dress was a coral colour, so I had brown eye make-up and coral lips. The lipstick used was beautiful, and I had to buy one, because, well, just because I liked it basically. Foundation is applied with concealer to hide any dark patches, and any wrinkle I thought I had suddenly disappeared. At one stage I wondered whether I was looking in a magic mirror. The Cost: Professional make up application costs 60TL and takes around 40 minutes, during which time you are buffed, preened and made to look like something out of a glossy magazine. When I looked back in the mirror I didn’t recognise myself, and wished I could make myself up to look like that every day. If this is what celebrities have to do however, they must have to get up very early in the morning! The Products: You can of course buy any of the products used during your make over, so simply ask if any of them take your fancy. I found prices to be quite reasonable, with foundation prices ranging from 19.50TL to 34.50TL, which is much cheaper than back in the UK for good quality products. The Verdict: For any celebration event, such as a wedding, big party, birthday, or basically any event where you want to look your shiny best, I would highly recommend booking in at Golden Rose for a professional make-over. It’s nothing short of wondrous what those brushes can do, and with the skill and expertise of staff who are highly trained in their art, the results are stunning. Would I recommend time in the make-up chair? Definitely. If nothing else I felt like a princess in the magic mirror for a few hours! |
