OK people, time to PANIC! The pregnancies have started and we are running out of time. Dunn dun duuuunnnnnn! If you have a female cat in your garden, at your work, at your favourite cafe, in your friends garden – ANYWHERE - please take her to the vet ASAP. IF you can catch her yourself, DONT wait for someone from the animal welfare to come because there might not be time. The Facts: One unneutered female cat can bring you up to 13 kittens per year. In six months her kittens start to breed. The theoretical number of kittens born from an unspayed female cat and her offspring is 42,400 in 6 year!!! Since 2010, over 3300 cats have been neutered in Marmaris. Since December 15, approximately 450 cats have been neutered. But every day we get calls from areas with friendly cats and people wanting help. The belediye/municipality neuters these cats for FREE and anybody can take them. This year the area of residence is not as restricted as it was last year. Armutalan, the villages, Beldibi is also on the list, so please call the belediye to try to make an appointment. Kittens can get pregnant at 5-6 months so we urge you to take them to be spayed from a very young age to save them from the unnecessary suffering. Male cats are almost as important... They are the ones causing all the trouble, fighting and the wounds that come with it. They make most of the noise, they mark their territory with their scent, they chase females into the streets and cause traffic accidents. So YES, males also need to be done! Long story short: Pregnant cats, kittens as young as 4 months and males - ALL can and should be done. When you have decided there is a cat you can help, you will need a proper pet carrier. A carton box will not do. You can borrow from the municipality's dog shelter or from someone you know. Important part is that its strong so the cat doesn't escape on the road. Check that the box is properly closed and cover it with a towel or blanket to keep the cat calm. After the Op: Dont let the cat out of the box the first 24 hours after the operation. Put in newspapers to keep it dry. The cat will tumble around in the box whilst waking up, this is normal. Dont let it out! If it’s a female and you have the possibility to keep her for one more day in the box (total 2 days) before letting her out on the street, this would be beneficial. So please take note of this URGENT NOTICE, and if you can catch any stray cats in your area, do be so kind to have them neutered.
